Sandy Fries Custodian

Sandy Fries

Everyone in town knows Sandy Fries. Being the HNCC custodian is only one of her “claims to fame”. She has been a member of HNCC for over 30 years, first attending at the invitation of a neighbor. During these years, she raised three children of her own and provided daycare for several others as well. She is a Sunday School and VBS teacher, has served in every Council chair position, including Church Chair. She started the East Hampton Food Bank which still ably provides food and other assistance to local families in need. It has become known as one of the most well operated and provisioned banks in the area. Through that initiative, she also was instrumental in developing, with the town’s Ecumenical Council, “Project Thanksgiving” and “Project Christmas”, which provide special gifts and food baskets on those holidays. Sandy’s heart is tuned to Outreach and one of her most recent initiatives is, the Cobalt Lodge Garden. After her mother became a resident there, Sandy was inspired by a vacant plot of land surrounded by the patient rooms. She designed a garden plan, garnered support for her idea from the management, local area churches and civic groups and then, with the help of a few volunteers and some monetary and material contributions, she began building! Sandy may also been seen running between the HNCC Baked Goods booth and the famous HNCC Chicken BBQ at the Haddam Neck Fair—something she’s supported through smoke and tears since inception. Besides all that, she is a master chef, gardener, coordinator, organizer, hostess and oh yes…she keeps the church mighty clean too!
